Volkswagen ID.7: The German Automaker’s Electric Sedan Prepares to Hit U.S. Roads
The Volkswagen ID.7, the latest all-electric sedan from the renowned German automaker, is set to make its way to U.S. roads soon. Already available in Europe since last year, Volkswagen has delayed its American debut due to uncertainties surrounding its domestic workforce.
Strong Overseas Demand for the ID.7
Volkswagen is seeing robust demand for the ID.7 in Europe, largely driven by the positive acclaim the vehicle has garnered. Among its lineup, the Pro S variant stands out as the most efficient model, boasting an impressive range of 794 kilometers on a single charge.
A New Standard in EV Range
This translates to approximately 493 miles, marking a new milestone for Volkswagen in the electric vehicle segment. It positions the ID.7 alongside high-range EVs like the Lucid Air Grand Touring in the U.S. While most North American EVs achieve EPA-rated ranges in the 300 to 400-mile range, the ID.7 has the potential to set itself apart.
The Record-Breaking Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S
Although the European WLTP cycle rated the ID.7 Pro S with a combined range of 709 km (440 miles), it’s important to note that these figures tend to be more optimistic than those set by the EPA.
How Volkswagen Achieved Such a Range
Volkswagen conducted the test on an 81-km (50-mile) route in Zug, a city south of Zurich, Switzerland. The route included urban streets, highways, and rural roads with elevation changes to simulate real-world driving conditions. According to Volkswagen, the record was achieved during regular daytime traffic last week, showcasing the car’s efficiency in typical daily use.
