Jaguar Land Rover’s unveiling of the Jaguar Type 00 concept marks a bold new direction for the iconic brand, blending heritage with a forward-looking vision. The event, part of Miami Art Week, highlighted Jaguar’s ambition to transition from being a heritage brand to one with long-term relevance, desirability, and sustainability. The Type 00 concept is Jaguar’s statement as it embarks on a path to becoming an all-electric vehicle manufacturer.
Named after the 1961 Jaguar E-Type, the Type 00 is a complete reset for the brand, symbolizing Jaguar’s shift to zero-emission vehicles. This concept car comes as Jaguar has discontinued most of its model lineup, including the F-Type sports car, XE and XF sedans, and the I-Pace EV, with only the F-Pace remaining ahead of the launch of a new battery-electric four-door GT in late 2025.
The Type 00 concept showcases striking, futuristic design elements while staying true to traditional Jaguar styling cues, such as a long hood, fastback rear, and a confident stance with large 23-inch wheels. The roof is made of glass, but the rear tailgate does not feature glass. The car’s distinctive face is enhanced by lighting positioned at the corners, creating an impression of width, and the new Jaguar logo takes center stage with the custom typeface, Jaguar Exuberance.
Notable features include rear-facing cameras hidden beneath hand-finished brass ingots engraved with the iconic leaping cat silhouette. The Type 00 also boasts butterfly doors, a classic feature of concept cars, despite their lack of practicality. A unique “Prism Case” on the front fender holds a “totem,” which can be placed in the center console to modify the car’s lighting, dashboard displays, and even trigger specific sounds and scents within the cabin. These elements underscore Jaguar’s intent to provide a highly personalized and immersive experience for owners.
The Jaguar Type 00 is not just a concept car but a bold step forward as Jaguar looks to redefine its future in the rapidly changing automotive industry.
